Apples to emos.

So there's a really good band called Apples In Stereo that are associated with Elephant Six (Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control). Anyway, they put out a lot of albums now, but my favorite is definitely this one. It's got a few too many interludes and such, but the actual songs are really on point. It's psychedelic pop rock style shit in the vein of The Beatles and other shit of that era.



While we're on psychedelic albums, here's a favorite of mine. It's from these DC dudes and it's quite good.



...and here's one from these London dudes that's also good. This one is more laid back though, reminiscent of the AIS album above instead of the more stoner rock esque Dead Meadow deal.



Anyway, with all this whining about emo being a bunch of whiny queers in makeup singing really shitty songs I figured I'd throw up some good actual emo, before that label became synonymous with that aforementioned morons. This album is pretty much perfect music for a rainy day, but will fit in just about any other time as well.
